What’s Akahu and why do we need to confirm your bank account?

Akahu is a New Zealand based company that helps us securely confirm your identity using your bank account details.

It’s important that the bank account you use belongs to you, as we want to make sure when you withdraw money it’ll only ever go to you.

How does Akahu work?

Akahu securely connects to your bank as a one-off to confirm your account details.

Depending on your bank, this connection may use open banking, which allows you to approve access directly through your bank’s app.

In both cases:

  • The connection is encrypted

  • We don’t see or store your online banking password

  • Your information is only used to confirm your bank account and identity

Supported banks

Please note the supported banks are:

  • ANZ

  • ASB

  • BNZ

  • Heartland

  • Kiwibank

  • TSB

  • The Co-Operative Bank

  • Westpac

If your bank is not on this list or you want more information about Akahu, please email us at help@tempo.co.nz.

Want to verify your identity and bank account details another way?
